January-March 2018 Wrap-Up

Books I Read This Month (2)

Hey everyone! How are you all?

Did you miss me? Did you miss me? Yes, read that in Moriarty’s creepy voice. Anyways, its the middle of April and my exams ended about a week ago so I’m back to blogging and reading. These past months were really stressful.  However, I am officially done with high school and I’m ready to move on.

I did manage to read 10 books in these 3 months.

Books I Read

1. Battling Injustice by Supriya Vani

Battling Injustice by journalist Supriya Vani tells the stories of 16 Women Nobel Peace Laureates. If you ask me which is a book that I recommend to everyone, I would hand over this book to you.

My Rating– 5 stars

2. Mercy Of Gods and Men by Aditya Mathur

As much as I appreciate a debut author’s attempt at this fantasy book, it lacked proper editing and world building.

Read my full review here.

My Rating- 3 stars

3. It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover

Among all of CoHo’s books I have read so far, this is my favorite. I loved that this book had an unexpected twist and I loved the way how it dealt with a serious issue. The previous books by the author were certainly romantic and steamy but many of them had a lot of issues and I am glad this book was very different from them.

If you haven’t read anything by the author, I suggest you start with this book.

My Rating- 4 stars

4. How To Be A Bawse by Lilly Singh

Image result for bawse book

For those of you who don’t know, Lilly Singh a.ka. Superwoman is a very popular Youtuber who mostly makes comedy videos but is essentially an amazing human being. This is a self-help/inspirational book by her that gives real advice on how to be successful. It is beautifully illustrated and has short chapters.

I absolutely loved this book. I loved that it was simply written in Lilly’s style with her humor and I can honestly say I learned a lot from it. My respect for this woman has increased even more now. This is definitely a book I’ll be visiting again.

Even if you’re not a fan of Lilly Singh, I highly recommend this book because it is a great self-help book.

My Rating- 5 stars

5. Balraj by Manoj V. Jain

Image result for balraj book

This book was a surprise as I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. It follows the story of Inder who is tired from what his life has become and decides to just leave everything and go.

I’m not going to say more since I’m planning to post a review of this book soon.

My Rating- 4 stars

6. Ramona by Manoj V. Jain

Ramona is the sequel to Balraj. It follows the story of Balraj’s wife Ramona after her husband unexpectedly leaves her. I am glad the author published this book as we got to know about the backstory of their relationship and also learnt Ramona’s story- how devastated she was when her husband left and how she had been in as much pressure as him through the years. This book also shows a married women’s struggles and how she found peace and herself again.

My Rating- 5 stars

7. The Invisible Man by H.G Wells

Image result for the invisible man book

This book is a science-fiction classic and I honestly don’t want to talk about it. I read this book for my English exam and I read it very fast and skimmed through some of it. I really don’t know how to feel about the story or the characters and don’t have much of an opinion about it. It probably would’ve been different if I hadn’t read it for school.

My Rating- 3 stars

8. This Inexplicable Logic of My Life by Benjamin Alire Saenz

After Aristotle and Dante Discover The Secrets Of The Universe, I was more than excited to read this book. It was a surprise. This book is completely different from the author’s previous book but wonderful in its own way. It doesn’t really have a main plot and I feel its best you just go into this book without knowing much about it. I’ll be posting my full thoughts on this book soon.

My Rating- 4 stars

9.Made You Up by Francesca Zappia

I don’t have much to say except that I absolutely loved this book! This main character is schizophrenic and it follows her senior year in a new school. I listened to the audiobook of this book and I was hooked right from the start. All the characters were really well constructed. Alex as a narrator was very interesting. Once again, YA Contemporary blew me away with another book.

My Rating- 5 stars

10. What are you reading? by Bragadeesh Prasanna

Image result for what are you reading bragadeesh

This book addresses the importance of reading for a writer. It tells us how reading books teaches us to express our feelings and hence become better writers. It is harsh but true that there are many meaningless works of writings today with no direction and I appreciate the author for addressing this.

The protagonist is someone who considers himself a writer but doesn’t read. The development of his character as he discovers the joy and benefits of reading are very interesting to read.

This is an honest and well-written short story that is perfectly wrapped up. I urge all aspiring authors to read it.

My Rating- 4 stars

TV Shows and Movies

Supernatural

I AM OBSESSED. I swear I can’t remember the last time I was this involved in any show or book. I’m watching season 13 as the episodes come out and I am also re-watching the series. There is something incredibly addictive and beautiful about this show. It’s not just about the wonderful characters- Sam, Dean and Cas but the storyline, their strength, and bravery. Even though I don’t read SPN fanfics and don’t ship anyone, I also really love the fandom and the cast is freaking amazing. I have been binge-watching the conventions on Youtube. Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are hilarious and awesome human beings. I can’t even describe how grateful I am that I watched this show and how wonderful it is. Also, I am totally and completely in love with Sam Winchester AND Jared Padalecki.

Pitch Perfect 3

Oh God, the disappointment. Except for a few good covers, this movie was ridiculous. Pitch Perfect 2 ended perfectly and this movie destroyed that and I’m just gonna pretend it didn’t happen.

If you’re a huge fan of the first and second movies, skip this one.

      1. yeah, you totally got it, lol.

My further comments contain details about how the invisible man became invisible…but they have acquired a little bit of their own invisibility. So you must tell me how did you used this formula…
